„Before Elvis there was nothing”, rzekł swego czasu John Lennon. Jako nastolatek miałem do Presleya stosunek ambiwalentny – akceptowałem go jako ikonę popkultury, ale dziwiło mnie, że to właśnie on jest do dziś postacią kultową, że miał tyle hitów na szczytach list przebojów, że wzbudzał aż takie emocje. W ubiegłym tygodniu obejrzałem film Baza Luhrmanna „Elvis” – kinową biografię artysty i trochę się w mojej głowie poprzestawiało. Postanowiłem trochę posłuchać, trochę poczytać i okazało się, że można dojść do rozumienia fenomenu Elvisa. Jego możliwości wokalne, muzyczna otwartość, eklektyczność, niewiarygodne poczucie rytmu, charyzma – to odpowiedź, dlaczego 45 lat po śmierci jest nadal słuchany i uwielbiany. Przedstawiam mój subiektywny TOP 100 najlepszych nagrań Elvisa Presleya (tak jak w przypadku The Beatles dwa lata temu, nie udało mi się ograniczyć do TOP 60). Enjoy!
