Dziś urodziny obchodzi Michael Stipe, introwertyczny, lecz charyzmatyczny lider grupy R.E.M. Rapid Eye Movement to bardzo ważny zespół. . Poznałem ich muzykę dość późno, dopiero kiedy Michael i jego muzycy przedostali się do mainstreamu, piosenką „Losing my religion” i płytą „Out of time”. Słuchałem tego album bez przerwy w liceum, zaś kolejna płyta „Automatic for the people” stała się soundtrackiem moich czasów akademickich. R.E.M. potrafią tworzyć fantastyczną muzykę i znakomitą atmosferę; na zawsze znaleźli swoje miejsce wśród elity moich ulubionych zespół, choć zdecydowanie bardziej gustuję w muzyce brytyjskiej.
